Prasanna (Sonny) Tambe Joins Wharton AI for Business as Faculty Co-Lead
Wharton’s AI for Business welcomes Prasanna (Sonny) Tambe, Associate Professor of Operations, Information and Decisions at the Wharton School, as the newest member of its senior leadership. Working alongside Faculty Co-Lead Kartik Hosanagar, John C. Hower Professor of Technology and Digital Business and a Professor of Marketing, Professor Tambe will guide AIB in its mission to help students and professionals expand their knowledge and application of machine learning while understanding the business and societal implications of AI.
“I am very excited to join the AIB team,” said Professor Tambe. “As AI continues to transform one industry after another, its applications raise many new commercial, social, ethical, and legal issues. I look forward to supporting AIB’s efforts in preparing students and professionals to meet these challenges.”
Specializing in the economics of technology and labor, Professor Tambe will lend his high-level of expertise on how AI is transforming HR management and the understanding of labor market adjustments for specific AI skills.
“AI will have a tremendous impact on the labor marketplace, and Sonny’s research on the economics of AI and labor has provided some of the best insights on the topic,” said Professor Hosanagar. “AIB is excited to have Sonny’s expertise on the topic and together we will help managers and policymakers better navigate the many opportunities and challenges AI will present with labor force management.”
Professor Tambe’s research has been supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. His work has been published in several academic journals, receiving accolades along the way including Best Published Paper. He is a co-author of “The Talent Equation: Big Data Lessons for Navigating the Skills Gap and Building a Competitive Workforce,” published by McGraw Hill.
Professor Tambe received his S.B. and M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his PhD in Managerial Science and Applied Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
